Posted by Sara Marks on Monday, August 19, 2019

On Friday, August 16th, 2019 Deltek released a cumulative update to Cobra 8.2. Below are some of the new features as well as some performance improvements.

New Enhancements

Cumulative Update 16 to Deltek's Cobra 8.2 tool includes a few enhancement items. These being:

  • Additional worksheets in the Excel file when creating reports
    • You can include any combination of the Control Accounts and Work Packages, Resource file, and Rate file worksheets in the Excel file when using the DisplayExtendedDataWorksheets parameter.
  • Start Date added to the calendar worksheet
  • Improved Cobra log display
    • Cobra logs have been improved to help you better understand what changes were made to the data when inspecting the process logs.
      • The following changes are made to the Reclassifying section of the Reclass process logs:
        • Planned control accounts and work packages are always included in the process log.
        • Completed control accounts and work packages are included in the process log if the Allow changes to scope for an in-progress Control Account/Work Package option on the Project Preferences tab of the Project Properties dialog box is selected.
        • In-progress control accounts and work packages are included in the process logs if any of the following conditions are met:
        • The Allow changes to scope for an in-progress Control Account/Work Package option on the Project Preferences tab of the Project Properties dialog box is selected.
        • The source class is not Budget and the target class is not Budget.
        • The source class is Budget while the target class is not Budget, and the Copy option on the Source Class page of the Reclass wizard is selected.Reclass
        • The value of the Allow changes to scope for an in-progress Control Account/Work Package option on Project Preferences tab of the Project Properties dialog box set for the selected project is now included on the process logs.
  • Update Totals
    • When you run the Update Totals process, the list of classes that are included for each of the budget, progress, actuals, and EAC totals are now included in the process logs.
  • Support for Oracle 18c
    • You can now install Cobra using an Oracle 18c database.

Resolved Issues

  • Documentation

    • The Cobra Help System did not contain information on how to load actual cost records from a database table.

  • The Criteria Page of the Reclass Wizard help topic incorrectly listed Control Account.Location and Work Package.Charge Number in the Criteria field description.
  • File >> Integration wInsight
    • When you ran the wInsight Export process using the wInsight DLLs installed in Cobra, and selected the Transfer data directly to the wInsight database option on the wInsight Database page, the wInsight Recalculate process would recalculate all periods of the wInsight data regardless of the import file contents.
  • File >> Integration Wizard - Ancillary Data
    • When you ran the Integration Wizard - Ancillary Data to import a resource file that contained Element of Cost assignments on the resource codes, you would not be able to import Element of Cost as it was not an option in the drop-down list on the Ancillary File Field Mapper page.
  • File >> Integration Wizard - Project Data
    • When you ran the Integration wizard, loaded a large Open Plan data from an Oracle database, and selected the Filter activities loaded from the schedule option on the Filter page, Cobra took longer than expected to complete the process.
  • File >> Restore
    • When you used the Oracle SQL Loader to restore a backup with millions of rows of time-phased records and set it to automatically run during restore, Cobra might not restore all of the time-phased records.
  • Project Processes >> Calculate Progress
    • When you ran the Calculate Progress process against a project that was stored in the database with a large number of time-phased records, Cobra took longer than expected to sum up the time-phased results from the database.
    • When you ran the Calculate Progress against a large project that contained work packages with the Calculated Apportionment progress technique, the process would take longer than expected.
    • When you ran the Calculate Progress process through the API, and there was an error or warning about trying to run the Calculate Progress batch process, or about multiple Calculate Progress batch processes were run in one batch process, the Process name in the Process Log viewer would be CalculateEarnedValue instead of Calculate Progress.
    • When you ran the Calculate Progress process, some error messages were not displayed as errors in the process logs.
  • Project Processes >> Reclass
    • Several issues related to Reclass have been fixed.
  • Various other changes to make the Cobra program easier and faster to use
