Deltek Open Plan Overview

Deltek Open Plan is a mature, Critical Path Method (CPM) based project-scheduling engine.

Open Plan is made available in two editions: Professional and Desktop. The Desktop edition has restricted functionality and is targeted at team members who need basic project management functionality and to provide status but don’t need the full capabilities of the Professional edition. The two editions work together and the product is multi-user.

Open Plan provides an hierarchical, top-down approach to building and structuring project schedules. This is more like Microsoft Project’s outlining approach than Primavera P6’s bottom-up approach. Open Plan has flexible coding and user definition of fields and calculations.

Resource definitions (resource files) can be shared between projects for visibility of resources across projects.

Monte Carlo simulation of project schedules for risk analysis is built right into Open Plan.

Project schedules can be imported and exported in Microsoft Project’s MPP and MPD formats.

Deltek WelcomHome can be used to collaborate with team members or Control Account Managers. Status updates and new activities requested can be made through WelcomHome.

Open Plan has a two-way integration with Deltek Cobra.

Open Plan’s technical architecture is client/server and it supports Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQLServer and Oracle databases.

Open Plan is extensible via an API. A number of add-ins are available for the product.
