Implementing Investment and Capacity Planning for Portfolio Budgeting in a Healthcare Insurer IT Group

Posted by Pinnacle Management Systems, Inc. on Friday, November 23, 2012

Pinnacle implemented an investment and capacity planning process for use during Amerigroup’s annual portfolio budgeting for their IT group. Pinnacle also supported this effort by implementing an Enterprise Project Management System (Oracle Primavera).

High level outline plans for the prospective pipeline of projects were quickly generated from a variety of templates that included high level work plans and resourcing. These were combined with plans for ongoing projects and used to estimate the potential workload implications of various combinations of investments including the impact of large efforts like HIPAA compliance and Electronic Health Records (EHR).

Like many Insurers in the Healthcare IT space, organizations like Amerigroup face challenges with balancing regulatory mandates like ICD-10 with other efforts to sustain and enhance their IT infrastructure.
