What is Project Management?

Written by Pinnacle Management Systems, Inc. | Friday, February 6, 2015

Project management is a combination of methods and disciplines used to define goals, plan and monitor activities and resources, resolve issues, and control costs, scope and schedule for a specific endeavor.

According to the Project Management Institute (PMI), there are five stages or project management:

  • initiation
  • planning
  • executing
  • controlling
  • closing

The PMI has developed the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) for use across all project types and all industries. This body of knowledge has become the standard for individuals and organizations trying to adopt and execute Project Management.

In the real world, different industries and different types of projects require vastly different types of Project Management methods. R&D, Software Development, Defense, Construction and Biotech all have different challenges and cultures that require Project Management to be “localized”.

Pinnacle works with its’ clients to determine which aspects of Project Management are most important to your business and your Project Managers.
