Deltek CostPoint / Deltek Cobra Integration

I have heard rumor of customers having difficulty getting Deltek CostPoint and Deltek Cobra to work together. In fact, I followed Deltek consultants in on one implementation where they hadn’t been able to get it working to the customer’s satisfaction.

You can always go the route of using a report writer to dump a flat file of actual cost transactions from Deltek CostPoint each period and load that in to Deltek Cobra. Note that Deltek CostPoint doesn’t maintain indirect costs at the detail that we need them for ANSI 748 compliance so you need to deal with that.

Dumping a flat file will work for individual projects but if you are looking for something that handles multiple contract types, multiple projects, runs unattended and can automate the whole process for you Deltek has you covered with the Automated Interface.

Deltek provides the Automated Interface with CostPoint and it allows you to map your financial structures (project number, charges numbers, GL codes, labor codes, and pools) to your program management structures and pass data to Deltek Cobra. These mappings can be different for different contract types.

This interface is pretty sophisticated and to set it up requires an understanding of finance/accounting and program management. The IT department is also needed to help set it up.  Documentation is provided but it doesn't give much insight IMHO. Once the Automated Interface is up and running it will run unattended though.
