Deltek Costpoint and Earned Value Managment
ERP and General Ledger systems like Deltek Costpoint play an important role in EVM Systems. Pinnacle has implemented EVM Systems that are integrated with Deltek Costpoint to provide essential information for EVMS cost and performance analysis.
We have implemented a number of EVM Systems that included Deltek Costpoint, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Project Server, Deltek Cobra and Deltek wInsight. Recently we have integrated Deltek Costpoint into Earned Value Management Systems for Concurrent Technology Systems, Southwest Research and ASM Research. Other elements of the EVM Systems included in the implementation are:
- Microsoft Project
- Microsoft Project Server
- Primavera Project Manager
- forProject EV Update forProject
- Deltek Cobra
- Deltek wInsight
In an EVMS implementation Deltek Costpoint will provide critical information such as:
- Time reporting information
- Purchasing information including actual costs
- Supplier actual and estimated actual costs
- Subcontract invoices and costs
- Other Direct Costs
- Travel Costs
- Overhead Costs
- General Administrative Costs
Pinnacle has used a number of different methods to extract the data listed above. Often this is a simple extract using Excel that the EVMS Administrator updates into the EVM Cost Engine (i.e. Deltek Cobra) on a monthly basis.
In addition to determining how to integrate Deltek Costpoint with other EVM tools, there is almost always a need to adjust processes and level of detail to correctly capture information. The most common area that needs to be refined in Deltek Costpoint is the timesheet information.
